Who We Are

Coquet Island Shellfish Ltd was founded in 2003 by Tom Newton.

We employ a dedicated and highly skilled staff, and collectively we have hundreds of years of experience. Tom himself has worked in the industry for over 25 years.

Situated Amble, in the north east of England, Coquet Island is ideally placed to process the daily intake of the local catch of langoustines and scallops. 

We process just a few products, King scallops, Queen Scallops and langoustines

This enables us to focus our expertise ensuring that optimum quality is delivered to our discerning customers.

Meet Our Team

Tom Newton, Managing Director

Tom is the driving force at Coquet Island. A very hands-on MD, he oversees daily production, liaises with skippers, and generally gets involved with all aspects of the business. Apart from making the tea. He is proud dad of 4 boys, supports MUFC and likes going to festivals.

Jan Garrick, Office manager

Jan keeps all the paperwork in order. She is not to be messed with. Jan has been at Coquet Island for 5 years. She enjoys socialising and eating out, and spending time with her family.

Gwen Isles. HR Manager

Gwen ensures that staffing issues run smoothly. She is calm and unflappable and a cat lover. She is an excellent cake baker, and has met Ant & Dec.

Jane Pedersen, Sales Director

Jane liaises with our customers….in French, Italian, and could probably stretch to Spanish if pushed. Jane and Tom worked together years ago when they were both younger and slimmer and they both know a thing or two about scallops and langoustines.
